Design Change June fresh insights newsletter 🌱

Thanks for subscribing to “Fresh Insights”🌱 newsletter, which goes out to more than 500 subscribers about 6 times a year and offers insights on Change, Design Thinking and New Work.

Are we all heaving sighs of relief that things are going “back to normal” - but do we want to go back?🤷🏼‍♂️🙆🏼‍♀️

I for one, want to move forward, changed by the many challenges of the past year. We’ve all learned some valuable lessons, including lessons about how adaptable we are 😉💪🏼

For many of us, this adaptability has changed the way and where we want to work. We talk with each other virtually and collaborate on a shared online space. We use virtual white boards and are experimenting with new forms of teamwork and agile processes.

Leading in a post-pandemic hybrid working environment brings new challenges. Read more about this below in the Haufe Leadership article (German). I’ve included a great article on setting emotional limits, different thoughts on quitting by bestseller author Dorie Clark and a very green book recommendation for your holidays🌳

And yes, I feel excited by the future challenges that evolving technology will continue to bring and hope you do too!

Great to have you reading 😃

👉🏼Quote by James Clear:

“There will never be a perfect time to do something that stretches you …”

That’s true whether you are starting a business, having a child, changing careers, or wrestling with any number of challenges. That’s not a license to be reckless and never think things through, but at some point you have to embrace the uncertainty because it is the only path forward.

If you were ready for it, it wouldn’t be growth. ⚡

Was ist Hybrid Work?

Post-pandemic realignment

Here is a slightly different take on Hybrid Work in English. It is about integrating new teams virtually - creating team cohesion and connectivity when people have never met each other in person 🌍 A very relevant and real challenge!

Are you too nice?

Empathy is a positive affirmative stance ❣. But what to do when it is too much? How to make yourself immune to secondhand stress. Here a fantastic article from the Harvard Business Review on setting boundaries, self-management, and recognizing stress to create resilience🤺

Collaborating Teams

Why use design thinking in the Legal profession? Here a insightful example of human-centered design carried out with targeted legal users transformed into an easy-to-use list of FAQs.🧲⚖

Quitting your job

And if there are too many post-pandemic side-effects in your work life, maybe Dorie Clark’s , “Are You Really Ready to Quit?” will help you handle upcoming difficult decisions + conversations?

Summer reading

Something different. A book to help you recharge with fresh green thoughts. Are trees social beings? How do trees live and communicate? Do they feel pain or have awareness of their surroundings?

In The Hidden Life of Trees Peter Wohlleben makes the case that the forest is a social network. He draws on groundbreaking scientific discoveries to describe how trees are like human families. Wohlleben also shares his deep love of woods and forests, explaining the amazing processes of life, death and regeneration he has observed in his woodland.

A walk in the woods will never be the same again 🐸🌿🌼
