Brain Friendly Tip
Stop Multitasking. No, Really โ Just Stop It.

In this New York Times Opinion piece, Oliver Burkemann writes how he realized he had a sneaky addiction to multitasking. ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐งน While doing various tasks or driving or running, he always played a podcast or audiobook in the background. (Sound familiar?) To break this habit, he conducted an experiment. He wanted to learn to focus on what it was he was actually doing. The results and his take on the pressure to multitask are enlightening.
๐๐ป The benefits of not splitting your attention are many. These are supported by these key neuroscience principles:
- Rest and Brain Rejuvenation
- Creativity and Divergent Thinking
- Stress Reduction and Cognitive Performance
๐ค Science shows doing less can actually be doing more for our brains. Not only on holiday! It gives us essential rest and can boost creativity ๐จ, reduce stress, and improve overall brain power. ๐โจ Taking mindful breaks, attending to one thing at a time can lead to increased productivity and a healthier brain. It is really a no-brainer: ๐ Stop trying to get it all done at once!
