Hi friends of Design Change!

Weā€™re starting to see some glimmers of hope āœØon the horizon. Vaccines are here, even if theyā€™re not yet widely available.

Our world is still hurting, and laughter šŸ˜Ž can help.

Did you know ā€œā€œThe average four-year-old laughs as many as three hundred times per day while the average forty-year-old, by comparison, laughs three hundred times every two and a half months.ā€,

J.Aaker and N. Bagdonas, authors of the book ā€œHumor, seriouslyā€

  • Laughter releases oxytocin, creating connection.

  • Simply the anticipation of laughter decreases cortisol (the stress hormone linked to anxiety)

  • When we are less scared (less stressed) and more connected we are better prepared to learn.

So, why not try laughing more? šŸ¤—

Continue to learn and climb up your individual learning curve. Here are some ways to do so.

Spoiler alert ā€“ there are some freebies in this newsletter!

Unhelpful perfectionism

is a vice hidden under the cloak of virtue. Hereā€™s something new and potentially useful not only for lawyers. In the same vein as ā€œfuck-upā€ nights, a chat room to share legal ā€œOops!ā€ moments and other blunders called ā€œLegal Lookbacksā€

And here the opposite!

A list of practical remote working ā€œmistakesā€. Check this list (and your behavior!) when the next zoom/team/hangout/ meeting drags on and on and on.

Book of the month:

No secret here. Iā€™m excited to recommend this amazing book.

Humor, Seriously: Why Humor Is a Secret Weapon in Business and Life (And how anyone can harness it. Even you.) Jennifer Aaker + Naomi Bagdonas

The authors validate the absolute importance of humor in business and life. They give actionable advice on how to use it and reveal the science behind why laughter affects us so profoundly. The book will have you smiling and sometimes laughing out loud and show you how to be more likable, persuasive, better person and a more human-centered leader.

ā€œBusiness is serious and the world is serious, especially right now. That means we need the ideas described in Humor, Seriously even more than ever. Not because levity and humor are ways to relieve the pressure of serious times, although they are, but because they unlock our humanity in the moments where we most need it.ā€
